2. Philadelphia Phillies rumors: Trea Turner would be a great fit in Philadelphia.

Trea Turner pestered the Phillies plenty during his years with the Washington Nationals. Turner is the speediest of these shortstop candidates with a career batting average over .300. Turner would be the obvious leadoff hitter for the Phillies which is precisely why he should be a major target of theirs.

Turner led the league in three major categories last year. He had 195 hits, 32 stolen bases, and a .328 batting average. A current member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the trouble could be prying him away from them. They already let Corey Seager walk away. Would they, in consecutive offseasons, let two star shortstops depart?

Turner’s biggest flaw might also be his health although those significant injuries seem to have occurred earlier on in his career. As a former teammate of Bryce Harper’s in Washington, maybe Philadelphia can get a little bit of an advantage. It’ll be interesting to see if Harper does any recruiting. They came from different generations of Nationals players even though they are close in age.

No Phillies fan should be upset at the idea of signing Turner. However, there is one marquee shortstop that would be a better fit for what the team needs most: a lot.
