Philadelphia Eagles: Ranking UDFA jersey numbers
The Best.
Mario Goodrich – 32
Mario Goodrich is going to wear the number 32 for the Philadelphia Eagles this fall.
That’s… pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good.
While it’s not the number 31 Goodrich wore at Clemson, I actually think it’s a better number for the do-it-all DB, whether he plays on the outside, in the slot, or even back at safety. Considering Goodrich received $217,000 in guaranteed money, this number feels like a good sign of things to come.
William Dunkle – 73
William Dunkle is an offensive guard, and offensive guards can only wear numbers between 50-79. Of the numbers available, 73 is a… wait, why is Dunkle in the best category when the Eagles’ other two UDFA free agent offensive linemen only landed in the better category.
Well, because that number was worn by starting interior lineman Isaac Seumalo from 2016-20, fans are now used to seeing it worn by an offensive guard. Call it cognitive bias, call it familiarity but in my humble opinion, that gives Dunkle, a supersized guard out of San Diego State that Lance Zierlein gave a fifth-round grade to coming out of college a clear leg up on his competition.
Noah Elliss – 61
Noah Elliss is a big, big dude, and with no numbers available in the 90s, 61 feels like a pretty good choice.
Most recently worn by Raequan Williams and Stefon Wisnewski shortly before that, 61 is a tough number for tough road graders, and as the second-biggest player on the team, Elliss fits that bill to a T.
Reed Blankenship – 46
Reed Blankenship got the “Jon Doronbos number,” which is a good sign that 1. Someone in the equipment department likes him, and 2. He has a decent shot of making the roster as a two-way player destined to split his time between the defense and on special teams.
