Goodness, what’s going on with Joel Embiid?

I know, I know; he missed out on the MVP, was held off of the NBA’s second team ALL-Defensive team, watched his team lose to a Miami Heat squad up 2-1 on the Boston Celtics after suffering a seemingly endless string of injuries earlier this year, and is presently the face of Crypto.com, a company currently stranded in a weird place after the cryptocurrency market crashed, but goodness, have you seen his Twitter activities lately? It’s very weird indeed.

I mean, come on; need I say more?

So what’s going on? Has Joel Embiid snapped? Has being overlooked over and over and over again – with another overlooking just over the horizon considering the All-NBA teams haven’t been announced yet – taken a toll on the Most Valuable Philadelphian? No, the Philadelphia 76ers‘ center is simply tweeting about his favorite English Premier League team, Manchester City.

Breathe easy and read up on Man City, Philadelphia 76ers fans.

Heading into Sunday, Manchester City was in a very interesting spot. Up just one point on Liverpool, Man City essentially had their future in their collective hands, with a chance at a Premier League title very much in play if they could take down an Aston Villa squad that was 13-6-18 heading into the contest.

After watching Aston Villa go up 2-0, that title dream started to slip away.

Fans were outraged, with some super-sized, multi-millionaires calling it a “Generational Choke Job,” but then the goals started coming, and they didn’t stop until the score was tied and then flipped 3-2 in Man City’s favor, thanks to a go-ahead goal by Ilkay Gündogan.

And just like that, Embiid and scores of fans the world over could celebrate a win by the blue and white, even if he fears that “it won’t be close next year with Haaland.”

What does that mean? Honestly, I have no clue, but hey, to steal from Embiid’s favorite medium, memes, ‘I’m happy for you or sorry that happened.’

Is this really news news? No, not particularly, but I certainly was scratching my head when I saw Joel Embiid’s tweets this afternoon, and as a true journalist, it was my responsibility to get to the bottom of it, even though I don’t know literally anything about soccer. So… go Philadelphia 76ers, go “The Process,” and boo the NBA for failing to appreciate his greatness while he’s in his prime.
