. Defensive Tackle. Philadelphia Eagles. Fletcher Cox. 5. player. 54

For the sake of full disclosure, this last spot could go to about a half-dozen other players across the roster. Jalen Hurts could either become a franchise quarterback or a backup, Jalen Reagor could become WR3 or unemployed, and Marcus Epps could become a long-term starter or find himself a career special teamer.

So why, you may wonder, would I like to instead talk about Fletcher Cox? Well, because his legacy is very much on the line.

Now, as you probably already know, Cox hasn’t been the player he once was in some time. Once one of the most dominant interior rushers in the NFL, his effectiveness as a pocket collapser has decreased in each of the past three seasons to the point where opposing teams no longer need to double-team him on passing downs.

Cox was already removed from the Eagles’ roster once this calendar year, and while he was ultimately able to return to the team on a one-year deal worth roughly $14 million, if he’s outplayed by Jordan Davis and Javon Hargrave this fall, there’s a chance Philadelphia fully moves on next spring, if not trade him away this October.

And if he rebounds a bit and forms a dynamic duo with Davis? Well, the Eagles might still move on, but there’s a better chance Cox sticks around on a mid-term, mid-level deal and gets to finish out his storied career in midnight green.

Next. Don’t count out Isaac Seumalo just yet. dark
