Philadelphia Eagles: 5 players with the most to lose in 2022
On the first day of free agency, T.J. Edwards looked like the only professional linebacker on the Philadelphia Eagles’ roster. Alex Singleton was heading out to Denver, Genard Avery wasn’t expected to be retained, and the top linebackers available on the open market, from Bobby Wagner to Jordan Hicks, slowly but surely went off the board to teams not named the Eagles.
And then, it happened: the Eagles’ linebacking corps got surprisingly good.
From weakside linebacker Kyzir White, to strongside specialist Haason Reddick, and Nakobe Dean, who might just be the biggest wildcard of the unit, Edwards went from an island in the middle of Jonathan Gannon’s defense to a potential base down-only middle linebacker who has to sit on the bench for two-thirds of the game.
If, by contrast, Edwards is able to beat out the competition and remain a savvy defensive signal-caller in the middle of the defense, well, then he and Dean/White could form a fantastic duo in the middle of the defense for a very long time.
