The Philadelphia 76ers called DeVonta Smith what now?

With training camp still a bit away, members of the Philadelphia Eagles are finding interesting ways to bide their time.

Jason Kelce has tried his hand at hosting for WIP, Jalen Hurts successfully lobbied for A.J. Brown to force his way to Philly, and more than a few members of the Eagles have found their way across the sports complex to take in a Philadelphia 76ers game.

Haason Reddick, Jordan Davis, and Nakobe Dean jointly rang the bell before Game 3 versus the Miami Heat to incredible effect, and more than a few of their teammates have taken in a postseason contest too, including Kelce, Greg Ward, and everyone’s favorite no-longer-a-rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith, who was on hand for Game 4.

To the Wells Fargo Center’s credit, they noticed Smith in the proverbial stands and shouted him out for showing the Philadelphia 76ers love. Unfortunately, they announced the very much current member of the Philadelphia Eagles in a very unfortunate way.

The Philadelphia 76ers should probably wish DeVonta Smith an apology.

Alright, alright, alright, so without burying the lead any further, I present to you one of the strangest images you will see today, courtesy of everyone’s favorite roaming reporter John Clark.

That’s… yikes.

Alright, so not only is Greg Ward not mentioned as being in the picture, which is rude, but DeVonta Smith is described as a “former Philadelphia Eagle,” which *spoiler alert* isn’t true.

This tweet understandably generated a ton of traction, with the replies and the quote tweets absolutely stocked with heat making fun of the unintentional error. Folks like Eagles preseason announcer Ross Tucker prematurely declared that if the Sixers lose it’s on the scoreboard managers, while others joked that they threw their phones out of the fear of a Howie Roseman trade.

In a game absolutely stoked with excitement and exemplary performances by Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Tyrese Maxey, this little bit of levity was much-needed, especially since Smith certainly won’t take it to heart.

So, in summation, the Philadelphia Eagles haven’t traded DeVonta Smith. He’s not only still a member of the team, but is rapidly becoming a fan of the Philadelphia 76ers too, which is much appreciated. Fortunately, when not if, the Sixers bring the series back to the Wells Fargo Center for Game 6, the team can make it right by allowing Smith to ring the bell.
