Ah, the NFL Draft; truly the most wonderful time of the year.

Every team gets better, optimism is at an all-time high, and, since the actual games aren’t played for four more months, the harsh reality of a team’s ceiling hasn’t fully come into frame… except for maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars, even our old pal Doug Pederson can’t magically right a franchise that had a fan-generated “Clown Out” in Week 18.

And yet, for some players, the draft could mark the end of their NFL-playing dreams entirely, or at least a major change in responsibilities the likes of which could limit their role long-term.

The 2022 NFL Draft could affect Philadelphia Eagles new and old.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, this bottom-of-the-roster talent purge has already begun, as Howie Roseman waived Nate Herbig after picking Nebraska center Cam Jurgens in the second round. While Herbig didn’t have to wait too long to find a new NFL home, as he was claimed off of waivers by our other old pal Joe Douglas and his New York Jets, some players won’t be so lucky and will have to transition out of football to a new career off the gridiron.

Are there players on the Philadelphia Eagles who could succumb to such a fate? You bet; Jordan Howard came very close to burning out of the NFL last season before working his way back onto the active roster, and a similar fate could fall on players like LeRaven Clark and Richard Rodgers if they fail to make the roster. But as much as it may seem like it at times, the NFL world doesn’t just revolve around the City of Brotherly Love, and there are more than a few former Philly players who could see their roles heavily altered thanks to their respective team’s draft weekend wheelings and dealings.
