Coby Bryant. 154. player. 830. . Cornerback. Bearcats

Goodness gracious, can a fan get a cornerback in these trying times?

After going on the clock three, technically four separate occasions over the first three rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles have gone down looking time after time instead of knocking their biggest need, perimeter cornerback, out of the park and off of their draft board once and for all.

Would a player like Kaiir Elam, Cam Taylor-Britt, or Martin Emerson have looked good in midnight green? You bet, but do you know what? We can’t change the past, we can only focus on who could potentially be left for the cornerback-hungry Birds to select, and, assuming he’s around at 154, Coby Bryant – no relation – has to be the pick.

Measuring in at 6-foot-1, 193 pounds, Bryant isn’t the biggest, fastest, or longest cornerback you’ll ever find, but what he lacks in elite measurables, he more than makes up for in experience, as the Ohio native appeared in 53 games over five seasons and was tested a ton thanks to the shutdown nature of his former teammate Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner. Bryant was thrown on 208 times over the past three seasons, and while he did give up nine touchdowns over that 38-game stretch, he was able to pick off eight passes to bring his career total to nine.

Is Bryant a better player than Tay Gowan and Zech McPhearson, the two in-house players he would theoretically be competing with for a spot in the starting lineup opposite Darius Slay? In some ways, yes, in some ways, no, but someone has to play CB2 in Jonathan Gannon’s scheme this fall, and having an extra body in that room could prove more valuable than a situational running back like Zamir White or a nickel safety like Verone McKinley III.
