Philadelphia Eagles: Secondary-focused Day 2 Mock Draft
Ah, another Section 215 special; it’s almost like we’ve profiled a number of players, watched even more tape, and only shared the very best ones for your reading enjoyment.
Objectively speaking, Bryan Cook is a beast. He’s a smart, hard-hitting safety who has experience being deployed deep, dropped in the box, and even in the slot. If the Philadelphia Eagles pull a rabbit out of their hat and somehow sign Tyrann Mathieu, an opportunity that A.J. Brown’s new contract may make more complicated, Cook could start out his career as a third safety who fully takes over for Anthony Harris in 2023. If, by contrast, the Eagles roll with the safeties they already have under contract, Cook could be a Week 1 starter on the strongside who is capable of providing support versus the run, utility as a cover man, and even some pop as a pass rusher.
Oh yeah, and did I mention Cook is an incredibly hard hitter? Because he is; Cook is willing to ride the hit stick anytime a would-be ball handler comes his way and can truck over wide receivers and running backs with ease. Really, other than covering massive tight ends in man coverage, which isn’t something Jonathan Gannon didn’t task his safeties with doing all that often in 2022, Cook is an ideal fit in a defense that runs a two-deep shell, as he can play the pass, play the run, and provide some much-needed swagger to a unit that has often been Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, and friends.
Who would you like to see the Philadelphia Eagles draft in the second and third rounds? Are you hoping a running back like Kenneth Walker III falls to 51, or would you rather see Howie Roseman trade up to draft Nakobe Dean, a player many were totally fine with selecting at 15/18? Let us know!
