Cornerback. Tigers . Andrew Booth. 18. player. 879.

With Jordan Davis gone at pick 15, conventional wisdom would suggest that Howie Roseman would go back to his roots and select Georgia’s other defensive tackle, Devonte Wyatt, at pick 18 but alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. He, too, was snatched up by the Los Angeles Chargers, and I had to take the pick another way.

Fortunately, the Eagles get to leave the first round with one of the low-key best cornerbacks in the 2022 NFL Draft, even if he doesn’t have the same household name recognition as the “Big-3” cornerbacks.

Measuring in at an even 6-foot, 200 pounds, Andrew Booth is an ideal modern-day cornerback with experience pressing at the line of scrimmage, dropping back into zone, and even manning up with would-be pass-catchers on the perimeter. While he didn’t run at the combine or perform any measured on-field tests for that matter, his wingspan, height, and hand size all rank in the 50th or better percentile according to Mockdraftable, and his game should immediately translate to the NFL level as a CB2.

Do you want ball skills? Booth has five picks and nine passes defensed over the past two seasons. How about a tough tackler from the CB spot who can provide support versus the run and stop YAC-specialists right in their tracks? Booth can do that, too, as his six tackles for loss, 68 total tackles, and lone collegiate sack can attest. Goodness, if Booth can prove his abilities in man coverage, a look he wasn’t asked to play all that often at Clemson, he might just go down as one of the better players in this year’s draft class.
