Philadelphia Eagles: 3 more cornerbacks worth a first round grade
If Trent McDuffie isn’t Jonathan Gannon’s bag, his Washington teammate, Kyler Gordon, just might be.
Like Andrew Booth, Gordon measures in at an even 6-foot, 200 pounds, but his college career was spent in the PAC-12, where he played inside and out for three different head coaches over the past four years. Whether tasked with playing the slot or on the outside, Gordon put fantastic burst, good lateral movement, and effective deployment in a dynamic scheme that featured both man and zone coverage looks. He’s more than willing to lay the wood on would-be pass catchers, has 12 passes defensed in his career, and plays with a feistiness that will make him a quick fan favorite in South Philly.
Would it have been nice to see him run a faster 40 time than a 4.52? You bet; Gordon was lauded for his athleticism coming out of college but didn’t quite measure up in Indianapolis. Still, when you watch his tape, it’s not like he is getting beat over the top all that often, as he didn’t allow a single touchdown in coverage over the past three seasons, which, *spoiler alert* is very good.
Of the next three cornerbacks available once Derek Stingley, Sauce Gardner, and Trent McDuffie come off the board, Gordon is arguably the most and least polished of the group, as he has experience playing both man and zone coverage at Washington but lacks the polish of a player like Booth, who should be able to start right away. Still, even with the shortest arms of the trio, there’s little reason to believe Gordon couldn’t become a starter relatively early in his career, even if he never becomes more than a CB2.
Which of these cornerbacks do you like the most for the Philadelphia Eagles? Are you a fan of Andrew Booth’s pro-ready game? Of Kaiir Elam’s size? Or do you want a cornerback like Kyler Gordon, who sort of splits the difference and might even be a candidate to target if Howie Roseman opts to trade down a few spots? Let us know!
