Philadelphia Phillies: 3 overreactions from opening weekend

Philadelphia Phillies overreaction: Kyle Gibson is going to win the 2022 Cy Young.
Kyle Gibson, the senior member of the 2022 Phillies starting rotation, didn’t look too impressive last season with the team. He arrived via trade with the Texas Rangers following an All-Star selection. The results weren’t great. But with a year left on his deal, the Phillies were willing to give him another shot. At the very least, they didn’t have much of a choice.
What did Gibson do in his Phillies debut? He hurled seven shutout innings against the Oakland Athletics. Gibson wasn’t in danger much either. He only surrendered a pair of hits and struck out 10.
The season is young and it’s time to overreact. Let’s go nuts. Gibson is winning the 2022 Cy Young Award!
A king of overreactions from the first weekend of the season, Gibson has never sniffed a Cy Young Award. Last year was his first All-Star appearance. He entered the year with a lifetime 4.45 ERA. At 34, to finally win a Cy Young, would be a wonderful baseball story.
It definitely has to happen this year though, right? His dominance against the lowly A’s had nothing to do with them selling away their best players. It had everything to do with Gibson beginning his journey to a Cy Young season for the Phillies.
