One weekend is in the books for the Philadelphia Phillies. Three games down. We have 159 left to go.

Things have started off well for the team. They won their first two then were relatively quiet on Sunday.

However, one weekend is certainly not enough for us to have a realistic gauge of what’s in store. But a part of being a fan is to be ridiculously biased about the club and overreact to even the smallest of results or decisions, good or bad. So, while the Phillies remain one of the best teams in baseball, let’s overreact and jump to some implausible conclusions for the 2022 season.

Philadelphia Phillies overreaction: This team is going to hit the most home runs in the history of the sport.

The 2022 Phillies season couldn’t have started off better. It wasn’t the win on Opening Day. It was the first at-bat of the season.

Kyle Schwarber, one of the most unorthodox leadoff hitters you might find in baseball for a team hoping to win, hit a bomb in his first plate appearance. The Phillies were quickly up 1-0 and the chase for the home run record was on.

Following this weekend’s results, we can all overreact and say the Phillies are setting a new home run record. Not just a franchise one either. They’re taking down the 2019 Minnesota Twins who hit 307 dingers.

How are the Phillies going to do it? Well, Schwarber is going to knock over 40 easily. Bryce Harper will, too. So will Nick Castellanos. Let’s not forget about Rhys Hoskins. Combined, those four will have 160 long balls.

Phillies games are going to take a long time this year. MLB may even consider eliminating the home run trot to speed up the game.
