Bold Philadelphia Phillies prediction: Bryson Stott isn’t quite ready for the spotlight.

Rookie Bryson Stott will be on the Opening Day roster. Does he win the Rookie of the Year? Does he even win a starting gig? Even lesser, does he play well?

I’m not ready to call Stott a bust nor should anybody. He needs a big league at-bat before we leap to that conclusion. However, I don’t think he’s about to take the league by storm.

That’s not to steal away from what could still be a productive season for Stott. He just seems a little too green for a dominant year at the plate.

Last season was a huge one for Stott as he traveled from High-A up to Triple-A by season’s end. He only received 41 plate appearances one level below the major leagues. And while he did hit well and had a nice spring, the regular season is a whole different story.

For Stott, a reasonable expectation for him would be to hit .250-.260 with some light power. His playing time may be limited at first as the Phillies try to figure out exactly how to best use him. The organization hasn’t been shy about sending players down to the minors either so Stott will need to perform well early on to stay with the big league club. I do think they’ll be patient with him and he’ll have a decent year.

But the 2022 Phillies will have very little to do with Stott. He is a minor player on a team with a bigger picture.
