4. Philadelphia Phillies outfield free agent target: Nick Castellanos.

You can also call Nick Castellanos a DH target if you’d like. It’s probably where he fits in best but signing a player to exclusively take on this role is bad news.

Castellanos could be higher on this list if not for one major issue: his defense is horrific and the position he has played most is currently occupied by Bryce Harper.

Castellanos’ career has taken him from third base to right field without much, if any, improvement with the glove. He’s a major leaguer because of what his bat can do. In recent seasons, he has turned into one of the game’s most well-rounded sluggers. In 2021, he had a career-year as a member of the Cincinnati Reds. Castellanos ripped 34 home runs, drove in 100, and did it with a .309/.362/.576 slash line.

Known best for interrupting apologies with deep drives into left field, Castellanos could thrive with the Phillies. But because we’re looking for outfield help as well, he falls a spot or two on this list.

The Phillies cannot waste time trying to see if he can play a serviceable left field for them. It becomes a distraction. Fortunately, there are some other options in free agency still available to them.
