Philadelphia 76ers: Danny Green takes aim at Ben Simmons

Danny Green is a company man.

When the Philadelphia 76ers are #InTheMud, as Paul Reed would say, Green is quick to pull a John Cena and play peacemaker, but once he’s able to, the “Green Ranger” isn’t afraid to spill some tea.

Take, for example, Green’s weird anti-fan agenda last summer. At the time, his words felt like that of a jilted lover, angry his team was moving on and that he would, in turn, have to accept an MLE elsewhere for less money. Instead, Green re-signed, and those words were rapidly forgiven, though not forgotten.

So naturally, with Ben Simmons officially traded and the Philadelphia 76ers set to fully commit to the Jo and James connection, you just knew Danny Green would have something to say on the process on his podcast, Inside the Green Room with Danny Green, and boy oh boy was it worth the wait.

Danny Green has no love lost for the Philadelphia 76ers’ former point guard.

Does Ben Simmons have a cordial relationship with Seth Curry or Andre Drummond? According to Danny Green, that would be a no, not in Philly anyway.

And what about March 10th, widely considered the most interesting game remaining in the NBA’s regular season regardless of team, division, or conference? While that game should remain a box-office attraction, DG doesn’t think BS will be in attendance due to his disdain for our fair city.

Heck, “The Green Ranger” doesn’t even think Simmons would shake hands with members of the Sixers before or after a game, again, because he hates “The Process.”

… wow, a lot to unpack here.

First and foremost, much like when J.J. Redick took shots at Zion Williamson for his poor attitude one day prior, these words from Green ring truer than the revisionist history of an annoyed former teammate. When Simmons was still a member of the red, white, and blue, Green was one of his most vocal advocates. His comments on the fanbase needing to be more supportive of its players actually came during a larger conversation about booing Simmons during the 2021 playoffs, and Green was quick to speak kindly on his now-former teammate after re-signing over the summer.

Furthermore, other than the nugget about Curry and Drummond, is anything Green said not more or less common knowledge? Everyone knows Simmons hates Philadelphia and that the team had actively moved on from their former second star in an attempt to rally together this season; did anyone really expect him to shake hands before the game or joke around with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, James Harden, or even his fellow countryman, Matisse Thybulle?

Yeah, I sort of doubt it.

Next. Don’t rule out another addition post-Willie Cauley-Stein. dark

After months of having to be respectful just in case Ben Simmons somehow returned to the court post-trade deadline, the Philadelphia 76ers are officially moving forward, and some members of the team – I’m looking at you, Joel Embiid – are leaving the dirty laundry at the door. Could we still hear more about how things went down, especially the more salacious details from Philly’s camp? Most definitely, I would imagine Tim Bontemps and/or Ramona Shelburne is readying a piece for March 10th as we speak, but for now, as Danny Green said, it’s better to focus on the future than get too hung up on the past.
