The Philadelphia Phillies need to swing for the fences with at least one of their outfield spots

The center field free agent market isn’t so great. To answer this, the Phillies could always go with a lesser player who can bat eighth all year long and play the position well. It’s not a horrible move.

Looking at the possible left fielders available, there are many more things the team can do.

Kyle Schwarber is one of the most notable available. The powerful left-handed-hitting slugger is a bad defender at the position (and anywhere for that matter) so pairing him with a slick-fielding center fielder works!

The Phillies could always turn to Nick Castellanos for similar results. Another guy known only for his bat and never for his glove, he’s another top free agent the club could plug into left field and give some at-bats at the DH spot.

One other notable option is to buy low on Michael Conforto. Until recently, he was playing a lot of left field for the New York Mets. He could turn into an absolute steal for the Phillies. As a former member of the Mets, it might be even sweeter.

There are lesser options for the Phillies to target in free agency as well to help make up for their lack of outfield depth at the moment. What they can’t do is sit on their hands and add nothing when there are so many options available.
