3 new Philadelphia Eagles records set in Week 18
Welp, it wasn’t pretty – and frankly, it wasn’t designed to be – but the Philadelphia Eagles are heading to the playoffs despite being blown out at home by their archrivals, the Dallas Cowboys.
Was the game fun to watch? Eh, not particularly, not unless you like scouting prospects or are a certified member of the Minshew Maniacs, but frankly, it didn’t need to be. Outside of injuries to backup tight end Tyree Jackson and second-string left tackle Andre Dillard, the team left the game relatively unscathed and will live to fight another day against their Week 19 foe, who will probably be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In the grand scheme of things, what more could you ask for?
With players like Jason Kelce, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Greg Ward all potentially playing their final games in midnight green for one reason or another, fans both in attendance and watching from home were even treated to three new all-time record holders that will live forever in the annals of Philadelphia Eagles history. Let’s talk about them, shall we?
DeVonta Smith now holds the Philadelphia Eagles’ all-time rookie receiving record.
If you’ve been keeping up with the Philadelphia Eagles for the last month or so, you surely knew that DeVonta Smith was a mere 38 yards away from dethroning DeSean Jackson as the Philadelphia Eagles’ all-time leading receiving yard record at 912 yards.
One quarter in, that record was dashed. After passing the ball around to start the game, Gardner Minshew connected with Smith three times at the end of the quarter and officially secured the new record at 916.
Needless to say, the Linc was popping.
While Smith attempted to check back into the game after his big catch and was able to take one more snap for good measure, the Alabama rookie’s Saturday night run was more of a cameo than a featured performance, and considering he left the game healthy, I would imagine (almost) everyone was a-okay with that decision.
With Smith out of the game, the Eagles turned to the rest of their receiving corps to stay competitive versus Dallas’ first-team unit, and while the unit largely disappointed, at least Quez Watkins caught his first touchdown of the season and flashed the potential to become the team’s slot receiver long-term.
That’s certainly something, right?
