Philadelphia Eagles First-Round Mock Draft: Week 18 Edition
This is one talented cornerback class. At the top, there is LSU’s Derek Stingley, followed by fast risers Andrew Booth Jr., Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner, and Kaiir Elam. There likely could be a run on corners at one point in the draft as teams look to gobble them up ’til they’re gone. Hopefully, Roger McCreary is overlooked so that he can become the third Eagles selected in the first round.
McCreary is a stellar talent on the outside with an elite competitive nature, loving nothing more than getting in between his man and the football. His athleticism, mixed with his technical proficiency, makes him one impressive prospect, and he has very few holes in his game.
McCreary may not quite have the ceiling on a Stingley or a Booth, but he has pro bowl potential and is one of the most likely to accomplish that in this class.
While David Ojabo would have Brandon Graham and Tyler Linderbaum would have Jason Kelce, McCreary would be wise to do everything in his power to shadow Darius Slay. With similar size and skill-set, there’s no better corner for McCreary to study under than Slay.
From day one, the Eagles should be able to rely on McCreary opposite Slay, and while it’s unfair to suggest that he wouldn’t make the same mistakes that are to be expected by rookies, you can bet that he’ll bust his hump to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Few are built like McCreary mentally. That type of toughness is required to thrive not only in Philly but in the NFL. Eagles fans would immediately fall for his competitive nature, and he would likely be a fan favorite from day one.
