Philadelphia Phillies: Top 4 remaining free agent shortstops ranked
By Tim Boyle
1) Philadelphia Phillies shortstop candidate: Carlos Correa
I do not think the Phillies end up with Carlos Correa. Most people consider him the number one free agent this offseason with an expected $300+ million deal coming his way. I just can’t see the Phillies investing that much money into another position player when they have far too many needs elsewhere.
Even if Correa ends up in the $200 million range, it feels like too rich of a deal for the Phillies’ blood.
He still belongs on this list because of that outside chance we get blown away and see him fall to Philadelphia. What if no one is willing to give him the right deal and the Phillies are willing to give him a shorter deal with a high AAV?
Correa is, after all, only 27. He can afford to go into free agency again.
I’m not sure anyone needs to hear the case as to why Correa would be a fit for the Phillies. He is one of the best at the position in the game.
I personally like Story a bit better but perhaps I’m blinded by his Coors Field numbers a little bit. Correa has also played on some very good Houston Astros teams where he had to share the wealth in terms of run production. Because of this, he has yet to have a 100 RBI season—something I think is necessary whenever considering a huge deal for a guy you’d put in the middle of your order.
Which of these shortstops do you think is most likely to land on the Philadelphia Phillies?
