Outfielders predicted to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies: Starling Marte, Seiya Suzuki

Again, we have two of the top outfielders on the open market predicted to sign with the Phillies this winter. This time, it’s two very different guys.

The first is Starling Marte. A lot of people’s favorite outfield free agent, he had an electrifying 2021 season split between the Miami Marlins and Oakland Athletics. And I’m not just calling it electrifying because I’m waiting for an overdue phone call from my electrician: the man stole 20+ bases with both teams.

The market for Marte is one of the hotter ones right now and I don’t expect that to change. He would be a great fit for the Phillies in center field.

Perhaps not a center fielder, Seiya Suzuki is another top free agent receiving one vote from the good people at MLB Trade Rumors—or MLBTR as the girls write on their binders.

The Japanese import is more of a slugger than a leadoff man. An awesome fielder as well as hitter, maybe he fits in best with the Phillies in left field to replace Andrew McCutchen.

I always find the market for international players to be far tougher to read. The Phillies haven’t made significant splashes there in the recent past so I have my doubts.

But things can change. Let’s not ring the bell and call the sweepstakes over yet.
