MLB Trade Rumors is the place to be as soon as the Hot Stove turns on. In years when the Philadelphia Phillies aren’t in the market to buy, it’s probably a place you visit out of morbid curiosity and not so much for excitement.

This winter, after another disappointing finish, the Phillies are expected to be buyers yet again. They have held true to their word in recent offseasons. Before 2019, we got Bryce Harper the 2021 MVP. Before 2020, it was Zack Wheeler, the Cy Young runner-up.

So who is it that the experts over at MLB Trade Rumors believe will come to the City of Brotherly Love? These are the names of the players with at least one of the three predictors naming as a future Phillies player. They are among the site’s top 50 free agents this winter so you know there’s going to be a lot of bidding wars to acquire them.

Shortstops predicted to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies: Carlos Correa, Trevor Story

Both Carlos Correa and Trevor Story received one vote out of three as the next shortstop of the Phillies. A position in need of some desperate upgrading, now would be the absolute best time to do so. The market is full of star players. Entering Opening Day with anything less would be criminal.

Correa is regarded as the best free agent this winter and I don’t really think he’ll end up in Philadelphia. It feels like he’s much more likely to head to a place like the Detroit Tigers to help turn their fortunes around.

Story, on the other hand, feels more like a fit for the Phillies. Imagine his right-handed bat hitting behind Harper. The transition from Coors Field to the hitter-friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park would help prevent him from going into one of those “post-Colorado Rockies” slumps.

Either way they go, if the Phillies can land one of these guys, put on our battle paint and get ready for war.
