Philadelphia Eagles Mock Draft Mondays: Week 9 Edition
Based on how the season has progressed and will continue to do so, the Eagles aren’t likely to change their “winning formula.” Now that would be a bad thing if it led to the team reaching for a pick just because they value that position, but that’s not the case with Evan Neal.
Yes, the Eagles already have a top-ten offensive line in the NFL, and yes, the Eagles value their offensive line seemingly more than any other position group on the field, and for good reason. A team’s season could easily derail with a poor offensive line; just ask the New York Giants, who have been dealing with O-Line issues for what feels like, forever.
While many would clamor for Derek Stingley Jr. or a Kyle Hamilton in this spot, the Jeffery Lurie/Howie Roseman Eagles would surely love to get their hands and such an amazing tackle prospect like Neal.
There was a time when Neal was considered a potential number one pick in this draft, and nothing that has changed is on him. In fact, had the Detroit Lions not selected Penei Sewell with the seventh overall pick in last year’s draft, Neal would likely be headed to the Motor City.
He’s one of the most physically gifted tackles the draft has seen in a decade. He’s incredibly strong and quick, yes, but it’s more than just that.
Evan Neal has a marvelous ability to utilize both his hands and his feet in both pass and run-blocking situations. They both deliver powerful, deliberate punches against his matchup, punishing the defender relentlessly to accomplish his goal.
Another offensive lineman may not be the sexy pick Eagles fans want. Still, with the unsure future of Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, and Brandon Brooks, fans may need to get accustomed to the idea of rebuilding this line. There is surely no better addition than Evan Neal.
