Take advantage of the NBA’s most desperate team

The Cleveland Cavaliers are the NBA’s most desperate team and have been ever since LeBron James left (the second time). They don’t have much of a direction, and while Darius Garland and Evan Mobley have given fans reason for hope, it’s unlikely the team will be making the playoffs any time soon, at least, barring a trade.

It’s very tough to imagine that Doc Rivers will be able to find ample minutes for all of Seth Curry, Danny Green, Matisse Thybulle, Shake Milton, Furkan Korkmaz, and Isaiah Joe without forcing one or more of those players to play out of position at the point.

While point-Korkmaz and point-Joe were fun in the preseason, it wouldn’t be as fun to see them against the likes of Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, and Kyrie Irving.

Now Sexton isn’t known as a defender, but at least he would provide such an offensive spark that the team could look the other way. Especially when you consider that Matisse Thybulle would be able to join the starting lineup next to Danny Green, creating one of the top defensive wing combos in the league.

Isaac Okoro and Kevin Love are solid depth, but the real prize here is the draft capital from Cleveland, even more so than Collin Sexton. This trade would get the Sixers a total of eight firsts over the next seven drafts (compared to six before the trade), and the quality of the picks likely increases exponentially.

When you combine the picks and the Philadelphia 76ers’ youth (Sexton, Okoro, Maxey, Thybulle, Joe, Springer, Reed), there’s a real offer to be made for a legitimate star.
