Adonis Medina, RHP

Once viewed as a player with starting rotation potential, Adonis Medina has really struggled to earn his way onto the Phillies major league roster. He did make his MLB debut last season, which went fine, but has since struggled upon returning to AAA.

Medina currently has a 5.73 ERA across ten starts in Lehigh Valley – a frustrating development for someone who many thought would contribute as soon as this season.

Already at 24 years of age, the clock is ticking when it comes to Medina finding his way onto a MLB roster. It’s becoming pretty clear that the Phillies don’t have any serious intentions of giving him that opportunity, making a trade an attractive possibility for both parties.

Obviously the Phillies wouldn’t get anything crazy notable in return for Medina, but he could be thrown in as part of a bigger trade package. Adding Medina to a trade which nets the Phillies some sort of controllable relief arm would be a pretty favorable outcome for Dombrowski and co.

Not many teams are in the market for Triple-A arms with a 5.00+ ERA, but I could see a selling team convincing themselves on somewhat Medina’s high upside. He still has the stamina to be used as a starting pitcher, which is inherently valuable to pitcher-needy organizations.
