Top 5 Philadelphia Eagles facing the most pressure in 2021
By David Esser
Jalen Reagor
The second wide receiver to appear on this list, the pressure that’s facing Jalen Reagor has been softened by the arrival of the aforementioned DeVonta Smith, but it’s definitely still there. The team’s first-round pick in 2020 – who they chose over the likes of Justin Jefferson – is coming off a brutal rookie season, and has already dug himself a bit of a ditch when it comes to how the media/fanbase views him.
Outside of Reagor’s lack of statistical production this past season, there were a few instances where he simply looked unhappy(?) to be in Philadelphia. Whether it was jogging instead of running, not making crisp route turns, or odd social media interactions, Reagor had a rookie season filled with more drama than some players experience in their entire career.
Even when the team switched from Carson Wentz to Jalen Hurts late in the season, a change that Reagor seemed pleased with, the production still wasn’t there. The former TCU product averaged just 31.3 receiving yards per game during the final three weeks in which Hurts was under center.
While Smith is expected to be the team’s solidified WR1 moving forward, Reagor still has to find a way to establish himself as an above average second option. If he doesn’t, the team could be looking for his replacement as soon as this upcoming offseason.
