Philadelphia 76ers: 5 potential trade candidates to avoid this offseason
By David Esser
D’Angelo Russell, Minnesota Timberwolves
Since the moment the postseason concluded for Philadelphia, and rumors of Ben Simmons being traded began to surface, Minnesota has quickly vaulted themselves to the center of that conversation. Their name has repeatedly popped up as a team who projects to be aggressive in their pursuit of Simmons this offseason, and Elton Brand has reportedly already met once with the Timberwolves front office to discuss potential offers.
Thus far, no real progress has been made, primarily due to the fact that Minnesota seems unwilling to offer up anything of value in return. Karl-Anthony Towns is obviously untouchable (and not someone Philadelphia would want anyways), and both Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell have been named as pieces that Minnesota doesn’t want to move.
With that said, if the Timberwolves are serious about trying to land Ben, they’re going to have to offer up one of their key starters, and the before mentioned Russell makes the most amount of sense for everyone involved.
However, “DLo” isn’t someone the Sixers should have any legitimate interest in. While he may be a better “fit” alongside Embiid due to his willingness to shoot the three, he’s kinda just not very good at basketball…?
Russell is an atrocious defender who hasn’t experienced any real success in the postseason, and doesn’t have the most efficient of shooting numbers (career 36% shooter from three).
No thanks.
