Philadelphia Phillies: Top 5 players who could get dealt at the deadline
By David Esser
Archie Bradley, RP
Signed this past offseason to help steady the ship when it came to the Philadelphia Phillies bullpen, Archie Bradley hasn’t exactly come as advertised. His ERA sits at a 4.00, he missed a good amount of time due to injury, and he’s yet to really establish himself as a high-leverage option. He’s started to get some more late-inning opportunities as of late (especially with Hector Neris being relieved of closer duties), but hasn’t looked particularly dominant in any of them.
Bradley’s WHIP is a 1.667 at the moment, which is simply way too high for someone who you signed to be a lockdown reliever.
With that said, similar to the aforementioned Vince Velasquez, Bradley has the makings of an attractive rental acquisition for teams looking to add cheap bullpen depth. He’s on an expiring deal, and does have some experience pitching in the postseason. Relievers are consistently one of the most-targeted position groups at the trade deadline – I’m fairly confident the Phillies could find a suitor for Bradley.
Now Dombrowski was of course the one who signed Bradley to a $6 million deal this past winter, so it’s quite possible that he values the right-handed reliever more than I may be considering. Regardless, it’s standard for someone in Bradley’s situation to be dealt at the trade deadline.
