A player whom many Philadelphia Eagles fans wanted to see return to the city of brotherly love this past offseason, Super Bowl 52 hero Trey Burton remains one of the top tight ends on the open market. 2020 wasn’t anything too crazy for Burton while playing for the Colts, but he did haul in 250 yards and three receiving touchdowns – respectable numbers for a backup tight end.

Following Burton’s one breakout year for the Eagles during their Super Bowl winning season, he signed with the Chiacgo Bears with the intentions of being one of their top pass-catchers. Burton recorded a career-high 569 receiving yards and a career-high six touchdowns that year, but has yet to really recapture that same form.

At just 29 years of age, it makes a lot of sense for a tight end needy team to take a stab on Burton. He’s got plenty of NFL experience to his name, and his versatility as a receiver is enticing considering the increased pass-catching duties that teams around the NFL are implementing for their tight ends.

It actually made a ton of sense for the Eagles to bring back Burton as their backup behind Dallas Goedert this spring, but they opted towards the more familiar face in Richard Rodgers instead.
