Boston Scott, RB

A fan favorite amongst the Philly faithful due to the random spurt of heroics that he displayed in 2019 (and in 2020, but exclusively against the Giants), Boston Scott’s role with the Philadelphia Eagles became a tad murky this offseason following the selection of Memphis running back Kenneth Gainwell in the NFL Draft.

Gainwell is viewed as an elite receiving back for someone of his age, and is likely already a better option when it comes to receiving/third down duties when compared to someone like Scott.

Throw in the fact that Gainwell is on year one of a four-year rookie contract, and Scott is on an expiring deal, it’s not all that hard to figure out why Gainwell could be viewed as Scott’s immediate replacement around the NovaCare complex.

Adam Caplan of Inside The Birds highlighted Scott as someone to keep an eye on due to the newfound presence of Gainwell, citing that keeping both on the roster would be somewhat redundant. Of course this assumes that either Kerryon Johnson or Jordan Howard stake a claim for the fourth running back job instead of Scott, which is an entirely separate conversation.

Regardless, Scott’s roster seat is warmer now than it was six months ago – keep an eye on him.
