Philadelphia Eagles: PFF names the team’s best and worst contract
By David Esser
Best: Anthony Harris
The Philadelphia Eagles biggest offseason addition this past spring, former Vikings safety Anthony Harris sees himself named as the team’s best contract at the moment. Signed for a measly $4 million during free agency, Harris enters a team desperate for secondary help, especially secondary help that comes at an affordable price.
Harris is coming off a bit of a weird 2020 season with Minnesota, as he was used in a completely different role. After recording a total of nine interceptions between the 2018 and 2019 seasons playing in a more “centerfield” type role, he was then asked to slide into the box more in 2020. He did record a career-high 104 tackles, but his coverage grades weren’t nearly as impressive compared to his previous seasons.
For the Eagles, I don’t think they really care how he was used in 2020. The team was starving for a new starting safety following the departure of Jalen Mills to New England (and with Rodney McLeod’s future being uncertain due to a torn ACL), and Harris was able to be snagged at an affordable cost.
While he’s not currently under contract past this upcoming season, a standout year from Harris could see him earn an extension from Philadelphia as well, as their secondary woes are likely to continue past 2021.
Harris was PFF’s top graded safety during the 2018-19 season, so it’s not hard to see why they liked the signing for Philadelphia so much.
