#2. Brian Poole, CB

The #5 player on NFLTR’s list, the only reason I have Brian Poole ranked above the likes of Richard Sherman from a Philadelphia Eagles point of view is due to age and asking price.

Poole doesn’t turn 29 until December, whereas Sherman just turned 33 this past March. Additionally, Poole isn’t going to be demanding the same type of contract that Sherman currently is. Instead, Poole is likely willing to settle for some sort of incentive-laden, short-term contract as he looks to bounce back from a season where he suffered a knee and shoulder injury.

The other major point of emphasis that needs to be made with Poole is his size, as he currently clocks in at just 5-10. More so built for the nickel, Poole wouldn’t be able to solve the Eagles CB2 woes. However, there’s no such thing as too much defensive back depth in the NFL, and the addition of someone like Poole on the inside would give the Eagles new defensive coaching staff a bit of flexibility as they continue to shuffle pieces around the boundary.

For example, fourth-round pick Zech McPhearson is likely someone who the Eagles want to experiment with as a boundary corner alongside Slay. The presence of Poole would give the team two slot corners to rely on (Avonte Maddox being the other), which allows McPhearson to more freely play a boundary role, as opposed to being reserved to a backup nickel role.
