3,965 receiving yards

The total number of receiving yards that DeVonta Smith recorded during his time at Alabama, Smith currently sits alone atop the SEC’s all-time receiving leaderboard. Ranked just above the likes of former Eagles draft pick Jordan Matthews and division rival Amari Cooper, Smith made history during his time at college.

Spending high draft picks on wide receivers is a strategy that is quickly becoming less popular around the NFL, as more and more front offices and scouting departments are able to find similarly talented players in Round 2, 3, and even 4. Guys like DK Metcalf, Terry McLaurin, and Tee Higgins are all recent examples of such a strategy working.

Plenty have made the argument that the Philadelphia Eagles should have targeted a more essential position with their first-round pick this past offseason, like left tackle or quarterback for example. But if they were hell-bent on adding a new pass-catcher through the draft this offseason, I suppose you could do a whole lot worse than the guy who is currently penciled in as the SEC’s all-time receiving leader.

The Philadelphia Eagles have 4 main options when it comes to slot WR. light. Related Story

Size concerns out the window, Smith is a guy who has had an abundance of success playing in the hardest college division possible. That’s worth something.
