Philadelphia Phillies: Top 5 bullpen trade targets, per MLB Trade Rumors
By David Esser
Raisel Iglesias, Los Angeles Angels
One of the better closers in baseball for the Reds between 2017 and 2020, Raisel Iglesias was traded to the LA Angels this past offseason as they once again attempted to gear up for a postseason bid. With Mike Trout now on the injured list and the Angels quickly tumbling out of playoff contention, one can only assume that theyâll be looking to depart with some pieces around this yearâs deadline instead.
While Iglesias brings with him a very productive track record and some wicked good stuff (he currently tanks towards the top of the league in swinging strike-rate and chase rate), heâs another bullpen piece that just doesnât really fit what the Phillies need at the moment.
Iglesias is on a fairly large contract at the moment, and is set to be an unrestricted free agent at seasonâs end. Unless the Philadelphia Phillies magically find themselves in first place in the NL East in late July, looking to contend for a World Series, making an expensive push for Iglesias wouldnât make much sense.
Hector Neris has also been pretty solid this season â closer might not end up being a position of need for the Phillies for the remainder of the 2021 campaign.
