Philadelphia Phillies: Top 5 bullpen trade targets, per MLB Trade Rumors
By David Esser
Yimi Garcia, Miami Marlins
One of those random pitchers who ends up having a career-year for the Marlins, Yimi Garcia has put together a really good stretch of games since being DFA’d by the Dodgers and landing in Miami. Currently possessing a 2.74 ERA and on just $1.1 million, Garcia is another super attractive rental piece that contending teams are going to come calling for this summer.
Not only is it hard to imagine the Marlins agreeing to deal a plus bullpen piece to a division rival, but Garcia is another player on an expiring contract who the Phillies should simply steer clear of. As much of an upgrade as Garcia would be compared to the likes of a Brandon Kintzler or a David Hale, giving up assets for a 30 year old reliever who is on an expiring deal is just a poor use of assets considering the state of the Phils’ roster at the moment.
Long-term pieces, not short-term ones is what’s going to get the Philadelphia Phillies out of the current hole that they’re in. Plus, even if the Marlins did agree to trade one of their relief arms to the Phils, you’d have to think Kim Ng would demand a hefty price back in return from Dombrowski.
So just cross Garcia off your wishlist.
