Last but not least, kicker Jake Elliott is very much a player who should enter training camp with some added stress attached to him. Elliott clocked in as one of the worst kickers in all of football last season, missing seven total kicks on the year. Two were extra points, and two were field goals within 30 yards.

Not great!

Where things get tricky with Elliott is in regards to his contract. The Philadelphia Eagles made Elliott one of the highest paid kickers in football a few years back, which puts them in a rather dicey situation when it comes to potentially getting out of said deal. The most likely time for them to do so would actually be after the 2021 season, when his dead cap number comes down to $3.5 million.

However, as we just saw with Carson Wentz and how that saga all went down, Roseman isn’t scared of a little dead money. Cutting Elliott now would result in $5.6 million worth of dead cap – not that much more than post-2021 in the grand scheme of things.

If Elliott shows up to training camp looking like he did this past season, then I wouldn’t rule out Roseman simply biting the bullet and starting over with a newer, cheaper kicker.
