Heading into this past offseason, defensive tackle was an underrated position of need for the Philadelphia Eagles. Outside of Fletcher Cox (who isn’t getting any younger) and Javon Hargrave, the team really had no-one else to turn to following the departure of Malik Jackson. This had us thinking that Hassan Ridgeway would be a lock for the roster following the team’s decision to re-sign him, especially when taking into his account his previous ties to the Colts coaching staff.

Then the draft happened.

The Eagles double dipped on defensive tackle during the 2021 NFL Draft, bringing in the likes of both Milton Williams and Marlon Tulipulotu. Both are likely to make the final 53-man roster this season, and both have a rather high amount of upside to them.

Williams has the potential to be an elite DT/DE hybrid considering his slim frame and freakish athleticism, whereas Tuipulotu has the makings of a solid early-down run stuffer.

With two new bodies into the mix, that puts a guy like Ridgeway on notice.

The Eagles could opt to roll with five DTs, as they do love themselves some D-Line depth, but second-year player Raquan Williams is also looking for an increased role this summer. Considering Ridgeway’s lengthy injury history, he could end up being the odd man out.
