Philadelphia Eagles: 7 training camp battles to key in on this offseason
By David Esser
Tight End #2
Another position group where I simply have no idea what direction the Eagles are going to go in, the team’s tight end room is a bit of a disaster once you get past Dallas Goedert.
This is of course assuming that Zach Ertz isn’t on the roster come Week 1, a reality that Ertz himself would very much like to see come true.
Despite plenty of reports this past offseason that Roseman would look to either sign or draft a tight end, the team ultimately did neither, which leaves their TE room extremely shallow at the moment. They could still sign a tight end if they really wanted to, but would have to release someone to create space on their roster.
As things currently stand, the likes of Jason Croom, Caleb Wilson, Tyree Jackson, Hakeem Butler, and Jack Stoll are the ones set to battle it out for TE2 duties behind Goedert during camp. Croom and Wilson are former practice squad talents, Jackson was a college QB, Butler used to play WR, and Stoll is an undrafted free agent.
Not great!
Regardless, Nick Sirianni is coming from a Colts offense that used its fair share of 12-personnel, so the expectation is that a second tight end will be apart of the Eagles new-look offense this season. Similar to the CB2 position, someone is going to have to step up and win the job.
