Philadelphia Eagles: 7 training camp battles to key in on this offseason
By David Esser
Wide Receiver
DeVonta Smith and Jalen Reagor. Those are the only two receivers that I have completely locked into roster spots for the Philadelphia Eagles this year. After that, it’s a complete toss-up.
Common sense would say that Travis Fulgham is likely to hang around due to the few elite flashes that he had last year, and that Greg Ward will likely be retained due to the need for a veteran presence. It’s also hard to imagine either of these two making their way through waivers unclaimed, if the Eagles were to try and sneak them onto the practice squad for added depth.
Once you get past those four players, there’s a whole list of pass-catchers who are going to try and stake their claim for a roster spot (and a role) this summer. John Hightower and Quez Watkins are both entering their second years, JJ Arcega-Whiteside has yet to play in a full-time role with the Eagles since his initial selection back in 2019, and the likes of Trevon Grimes and Jhamon Ausborn are both big-bodied undrafted free agents who are probably talented enough to hold down the back-end of a WR depth chart.
Nick Sirianni was praised as a bit of a “WR guru” during his time at Indianapolis, so it’ll be interesting to see how he constructs the back-end of his receiving depth chart this summer.
