Philadelphia Eagles: 7 training camp battles to key in on this offseason

The battle for starting outside corner duties alongside Darius Slay is a weird one because I don’t really know who’s going to be competing for them…?
Zech McPhearson was drafted in the fourth round this offseason, but some projections have him better suited for a nickel role. Even if he was drafted as a boundary specific player, chucking a Day 3 rookie into the deep end as your starting CB2 would probably result in disaster.
Last year’s CB2, Avonte Maddox, is still on the roster, but everyone’s best guess is that he’s getting moved back into the slot on a more permanent basis. He really struggled to play the CB2 position adequately in 2020, and his inability to stay on the field has to be taken into account as well.
Outside of Maddox and McPhearson, you’re then looking at guys like Michael Jacquet, Craig James, Lavert Hill, Kevon Seymour, Shakai Taylor, or Nate Meadors to potentially win the job during training camp. None of these players have experience successfully starting in the NFL, and none of them are realistically “high upside” players either.
However, someone is going to have to line up at CB2 come Week 1, and as things currently stand, it’s going to have to be one of the above mentioned names.
