Philadelphia Eagles: 3 players who need to impress during training camp
By David Esser
Andre Dillard, OT
Despite some of the rumors and reports, I don’t think there’s any real possibility that Andre Dillard gets traded this summer. However, there’s definitely a chance he doesn’t enter Week 1 as the team’s starting left tackle. Following Jordan Mailata’s breakout 2020 campaign, the two are expected to battle it out during camp for primary LT duties.
Another shaky selection from the 2019 draft, Dillard has yet to play an entire season as a regular member of the Eagles offensive line. He was Jason Peters’ backup during his rookie season, and then missed all of 2020 due to a biceps injury.
During the reps that he did get to see in 2019, he looked extremely unprepared.
There’s reason to believe that the Eagles should just bite the bullet and move forward with Mailata, trading away Dillard to a line-needy team in the process. However, there’s also reason to believe that Howie Roseman is going to insist that Dillard get a fair shake at the position this summer. He was a first round pick after all, a player that Roseman actually traded up for.
With that said, Dillard is still going to have to go out and win the job during camp. Mailata seems like a favorite amongst the players, and left tackle typically isn’t a position teams experiment with all that much.
