Philadelphia Eagles: Things to know about all 7 of the team’s UDFA signings
By David Esser
One of my personal favorite parts of the NFL offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles officially announced their undrafted free agent class earlier this month.
The team added seven players this year:
- QB Jamie Newman
- WR Trevon Grimes
- WR Jhamon Ausbon
- TE Jack Stoll
- C Harry Crider
- G Kayode Awosika
- DE JaQuan Bailey
Here’s a bit of information on each player, including their odds to make the final 53-man roster:
Jamie Newman, QB
The Eagles were expected to add a third-string quarterback at some point this offseason, with most projections having them drafting one in the fifth or sixth round. Instead, Roseman gambled in the UDFA market, still landing with a solid option in Jamie Newman.
After a productive junior year at Wake Forest, Newman transferred to Georgia in hopes of boosting his stock heading into the NFL Draft. Newman ultimately decided to opt out of the 2020 season, hence why he went undrafted, but he still possesses the tools to develop into a serviceable backup one day down the road.
A natural runner who had a lot of success at Wake Forest extending plays with his legs, Newman has the athletic profile to succeed in a spread style offense.
Taking a look at the Philadelphia Eagles UDFA class.
Newman still has a long way to go before you’d be able to consider him for a potential QB2 role, but he’s someone I would expect the Eagles to invest into moving forward as a long-term developmental project. Any training camp/preseason reps that he gets this offseason are probably worth paying attention to, seeing as he’s pretty much a lock for the 53-man roster.
