Brian Poole

2020 Team: New York Jets

A player whom Howie Roseman could get an inside opinion on due to his existing relationship with Jets general manager Joe Douglas, Brian Poole has the makings of a serviceable “stop-gap” signing should the Eagles deem their current cornerback room as insufficient.

Poole is only 28 years old, but he is coming off some knee and shoulder issues in 2020. He only started seven games for the Jets this past season, however he did play a minimum of 14 games per season in the four years prior for both New York and Atlanta.

Poole is a shorter, stockier corner at 5-10 and 200+lbs, so this would likely be an addition done to improve the team’s nickel position. An underrated roster need at the moment considering the departure of both Nickell Robey-Coleman and Cre’Von LeBlanc during the offseason.

Not nearly as flashy as Nelson or Sherman, and possessing less upside than Conley, signing Poole would more so be about just filing out the depth chart in 2021, as opposed to hunting for a “hidden gem” of sorts.

Like I mentioned previously, there’s no guarantee the Eagles even add a veteran corner at this point in time. The team has a healthy number of young corners currently on the roster, and could just be expecting one to emerge as serviceable CB2 sometime during training camp.
