Chase Anderson and Vince Velasquez are both pitching this weekend.

Not exactly what you want to see as a Phillies fan looking ahead in the schedule, both Chase Anderson and Vince Velasquez are set to make starts this weekend against the Blue Jays.

Vinny is set to pitch tonight’s series opener, while Anderson has the potential rubber match on Sunday.

While Velasquez has strung together a pair of decent starts over his past two outings, this is still a pitcher who has wildly struggled in a starting role since joining the Phillies over five years ago. It’s also worth mentioning that he only went 5.1 innings in his most recent start, which would seriously tax the Phillies’ already struggling bullpen should he do the same tonight against a red-hot Blue Jays offense.

Signed to a $4 million contract this past offseason in an attempt to solidify the back-end of the Phillies rotation, Anderson has somehow been even worse than Velasquez this season. His ERA sits north of 5.00, and he’s yet to record a single out in the sixth inning.

Facing off against his old team this weekend, maybe there’s a chance Anderson finally gets things to click on the mound? If not, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see the Philadelphia Phillies start exploring ways of getting him out of the rotation moving forward, similar to what they did with fellow offseason signing Matt Moore.
