This was supposed to be a big season for the Philadelphia Flyers, one where they built on the success of last year and saw a winning mix of productive veterans and rising stars take the team to the next level.

Unfortunately, things couldn’t have gone any worse.

After looking like a franchise on the rise just one year ago, the Flyers now appear to be in total freefall, and perhaps even in need of a rebuild, after a disastrous season that saw them miss the playoffs by a wide margin in the NHL’s fabricated East Division for this 56-game season.

The 2020-21 Philadelphia Flyers put up some horrible numbers across the board.

Things didn’t start off so poorly, with the Flyers charging to an 8-3-2 start out of the gate. But then the team had a Covid pause and never seemed right after that. They endured a disastrous March that saw them go 6-10-1, essentially making the last six weeks of the season meaningless. It all made for a very painful year for everyone involved, and there is much work to be done to improve this team for next season.

As is the case across all sports, the numbers tell the tale. And you can be sure that the Flyers put up some very undesirable ones this season. You could pick any number of telling statistics this season, both related to individual players and for the team as a whole, but here a few that stuck out in particular as showing just how much the team underachieved.
