Jose Berrios, Minnesota Twins

The third pitcher we all should have our eyes on is Jose Berrios of the Minnesota Twins. Out of the three pitchers I have mentioned, Berrios would be the most expensive to acquire by far. Berrios currently is holding his own with a record of 3-2 and an ERA of 3.49 through 7 games. With one more year of arbitration, the acquisition of Berrios would cost Dombrowski and the Phillies a pretty penny or two to get the deal done.

If Berrios reaches Free Agency in 2023, he will be one of the more popular pitchers of his free agency class without a doubt. In hopes of Dombrowski aggressively pursuing Berrios, Berrios would be the most ideal fit for both the present and the future of the team.

Berrios is only 26 (27 at the end of the month), he would save room in terms of the salary cap to allow the Phillies to make moves for rentals and free agent signings over the next two years, and he would establish the Phillies’ rotation as one of the top rotations for at least the next two years.

Would the ends justify the means in a trade for Berrios? It depends what the Twins would want in return, but I like to think so. If Berrios is available, he should be a rapidly blinking dot on the Philadelphia Phillies’ radar.
