Kenta Maeda, Minnesota Twins

The next two pitchers Dombrowski and the Phillies should highlight are both on the struggling Minnesota Twins.

The first pitcher I’d prefer to actively pursue of the two would be Kenta Maeda. Maeda has had a couple rough outings this year, but is a savvy veteran that would fill the 5th spot in the rotation quite well. Maeda has been known for being a quality clubhouse guy and competes on a game to game basis.

For everyone looking up his stats from 2021, I am aware he has not had the best of starts to the season, which is why I would like to get him sooner rather than later. Considering his 2.70 ERA last year in 11 starts which lead to him being the runner up in the AL Cy Young voting, along with his 3 million per year contract over the next three seasons, Maeda is a very attractive commodity. This would be a cheap, low risk, high reward move if Dombrowski is able to finagle a trade with the quickly sinking ship known as the Minnesota Twins.

Considering just how pressed up against the luxury tax the Philadelphia Phillies are at the moment, taking a swing on someone like Maeda on a rather cheap contract is a win-win scenario for both Dombrowski and John Middleton.
