2 thoughts on the Philadelphia Eagles newest rookie DE, Tarron Jackson

Defensive end depth was an underrated need.
I mentioned this in my piece on DT Marlon Tuipulotu as well, defensive line depth was an underrated need for the Philadelphia Eagles heading into this year’s draft class. They had no real DT3 or DT4 on the roster, and their defensive end depth was even worse.
Both Derek Barnett and Josh Sweat are on expiring deals, Brandon Graham isn’t getting any younger, Genard Avery is apparently moving to linebacker, and the likes of Vinny Curry signed elsewhere during free agency.
Not only did the Eagles need someone with potential upside in their D-Line, but they also just needed a body to fill out the depth chart.
It’s unlikely that Jackson will be expected to play a whole lot this season considering his sixth-round status, but he’s the type of player who could easily slide into that DE4 role. Like stated previously, he should be a little bit more polished compared to typical Day 3 pass rushers due to his elite college production, so he should be able to give the Eagles a handful of reps each week.
The Eagles had a lot of success developing Sweat up in this type of role, and while Jackson is nowhere close to as talented as Sweat is or was, the team could see similar positive results with their new rookie DE by season’s end. Jackson developing into a usable DE3 by year two would be a pretty sweet result.
