Philadelphia Eagles: 3 thoughts on the decision to draft Landon Dickerson
By David Esser
The injury concerns are very, very real.
NFL Draft weekend is a time for hope amongst football fans, a time where every single draft pick is viewed as a “steal” and every single potential “red flag” is thrown out the window without reason.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Landon Dickerson’s injury history is well worth a second glance. It’s the main reason he dropped out of the first round, despite his elite traits.
Dickerson has injured both ankles (one required surgery), and has suffered major ligament damage to each of his knees. He’s only played one full season from start to finish, and that was back in 2019.
While I’m sure the Eagles front office did thorough investigation into Dickerson’s injury history, and deemed him worthy of a top 40 pick, this is the same front office that swung and missed on 2018’s second-round pick Sidney Jones when it came to his respective injury concerns.
It’s also worth highlighting that lineman can tend to struggle with lower body injuries. Lane Johnson is a great example of someone who simply hasn’t been able to shake his ankle issues, despite going under the knife.
The Philadelphia Eagles desperately need consistent longterm talent moving forward – Dickerson routinely missing time due to injury would borderline ruin this year’s draft class in its entirely.
