Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Moving back up into the top 10
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
The best part about moving up from 12 to 9 for Surtain II was that I was able to keep the Eagles 37th overall selection, giving me another shot at a top-50 player here in the second-round.
While this has been a popular spot to mock a WR to Philadelphia, I decided to keep with the running theme of bolstering up the defense first. Kentucky’s Jamin Davis was still on the board, a player who would walk into training camp as the Eagles’ best overall linebacker by quite a large margin.
Standing in at 6-4 and 225lbs, Davis really excelled at Kentucky when asked to drop into coverage. Considering the direction the NFL is headed at the moment in terms of high-volume passing offenses, having that coverage ‘backer who can hang with tight ends over the middle of the field is quite the necessity.
Davis’ overall sample size is rather small, which could scare off some teams, but I don’t think the Eagles will be one of them. They were fascinated by Davion Taylor’s longterm athletic potential during last year’s draft. I’d expect them to view Davis in a similar light.
A linebacking group of Jamin Davis, Eric Wilson, Alex Singleton, and Davion Taylor could genuinely be something to build off of moving forward.
